We all admire people who dareClimb Mount Everest 'because it's there'.
Though tragedies abound,
Brave climbers have found,
That this challenge is beyond compare.
And yet tales such as this, horrify-
When one fell, others turned a blind eye.
In their desire to seek
And conquer the peak,
They just left a fellow climber to die!
Reuters 24/05/06: Edmund Hillary, the first man to climb Mount Everest, has blamed the commercialisation of climbing the world's highest mountain for the death a British climber, a newspaper reported on Wednesday. British climber David Sharp died on the mountain last week, apparently after reaching the summit and getting into difficulty on the way down, while several parties -- including that of New Zealand's Mark Inglis who became the first double amputee to reach the 8,850 metre peak -- passed him by.
When one is climbing for fame

A mishap here or a death there,
Would anyone really care?
From the top, all seems the same.
This is so true
Of daily life too.
We simply pass by
Leaving someone to die,
Thinking, "Sad, but what can I do?"
